Resolution on Alternatives for Federal Environmental Review

The work of screening alternative rail passenger and express bus alignments in both the Macon and Athens corridors having been completed and reported on in the PMT meeting of December 7, 2000, the PMT requests the Rail Program Managers to take the following alternatives into the next phase of the Federal planning and environmental review process:

1.        in the Macon corridor, the alternative using the existing Norfolk Southern “S” line – the former Central of Georgia --  from Macon through Griffin to Atlanta and the express bus alternative, as well as combinations of the studied alternatives; and that the environmental, cost and revenue impacts and benefits of the high-speed alignment be studied and reported back to the Project Management Team in the Spring of 2001; and

2.        in the Athens corridor, the alternatives using the existing CSXT line from Athens to Emory with various approaches to the Atlanta downtown area, and the express bus alternative, as well as combinations of the studied alternatives.
